David C. Gardner founded Flying Dog Studio in 2000 to create works of wonder and imagination. 

With over twenty-five years professional experience as a Layout Artist, Background Designer & Painter, Story Artist, Character Designer, Art Director, Development Artist and Picture Book Illustrator, David draws on his Film degree from Northwestern University and his extensive training at the American Academy of Art in Chicago. 

Before going freelance, he worked at various world-class animation studios, including Walt Disney Animation Studios. Proud to be longtime member of the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators, David has also directed the internationally known Gustave Baumann Marionettes at the New Mexico Museum of Art. He currently teaches illustration at Ringling College of Art and Design.
